The changing of the guard in Amalienborg Palace is a dailiy spectacle in Copenhagen. New guards coming from Rosenborg Palace march the streets to Amalienborg Palace to relieve the old guards. The event is called the Vagtparade in Danish. The Amalienborg Palace is the winter home of the Danish royal family, It was originally built for four noble families but when Christiansborg Palace burnt down in 1794, the royal family bought the palaces and moved in. Over the years, various kings and their families have resided in the four different palaces of the Amalienborg.
