New York City - Prayer Notes at St. Paul's Chapel
This 18th-century Episcopal church became a relief center during the September 11 attacks. Although the tiny church stood only a few yards away from building 5 of the World Trade Center, it escaped destruction. The churchyard and church were filled with debris and dust, but no physical damage came upon the building. It then became the temporary home of firefighters, construction workers, police officers, and others for meals, beds, counseling, and prayer.
