Bled - Pletna Boats on Lake Bled
The wooden Pletna boats that take visitors for a ride along the alpine Lake Bled are 7-meter long and 2-meter wide water taxis that have been a symbol and a tradition dating back to the 12th century. During that time, the poor farmers from the village of Mlino on Lake Bled built these boats to transport pilgrims to the island. By doing so, this has exempted them from paying local taxes. From then on, the pletna boat business has been handed down from generation to generation, and have also gotten bigger and better.
