Seville - Holy Week | Semana Santa
Semana Santa, or Holy Week, in Seville is one of the most important cultural events of the city, celebrated in the week leading up to Easter. Known as one of the best religious events within Spain, Seville is crowded with residents and visitors, drawn by the spectacle and atmosphere. This event features the procession of pasos or floats with representations of Christ and the Virgin Mary and individual scenes of the events of the Passion. About 60 Brotherhoods or Fraternities, known as cofrad’as, march in the streets in penitence, starting from their church to the Cathedral for a sacred ritual and back. This event is attended by as many as one million people each year.
