Marken - The Reformed Church | Hervormde Kerk op Marken
The reformed church of Marken stands on the same site where a monastery and a chapel once stood since 1232. In 1843, a small church replaced the chapel and by 1904, the present church was built in a calvinistic architecture-style. The new church houses a 17th-century oak pulpit with Ionic pilasters and a rich carved reading-desk. The interior is lit up by three brass chandeliers each holding 12 candles. It is also decorated with little ships reminiscent of the town's fishing trade. It's been said that when Marken fishermen went out to sea, they always brought along the Big seaman's guide - the Bible, with them on board.
