The Adriatic sea is known for being a calm and flat sea as it is enclosed on two sides and is not subject to the large tidal differences as in the seas of the Mediterranean or Tyrrhenean. The western coast is Italian, while the eastern coast runs mostly along Croatia, and lesser parts in Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Albania.
